Major changes to the Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) scheme in Singapore from 2025
From 2025, the Singapore government has made some important changes to its Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) scheme, which will provide more help to low-income workers—especially those who work in the gig economy (such as food delivery, taxi drivers, freelancers, etc.).
The scheme aims to support such people with regular income and also increase their savings in their CPF (Central Provident Fund) so that they can be prepared for future retirement or medical needs.

What is the Workfare Income Supplement Scheme?

The WIS scheme was first introduced in 2007, with the aim of increasing the income of low-income Singaporeans and ensuring that they have savings in the CPF.
In 2025, the government has made some major changes to it—instead of paying money once every year, people will now receive a small amount of money every month, making it easier for them to manage their monthly expenses.
Major updates of 2025 WIS:
- The maximum annual benefit has now been increased to $3,267 (was $2,667 earlier)
- People will now be eligible from the age of 30 (was 35 earlier)
- The income limit has also been increased so that more people can join it
- People with disabilities will get more special benefits
- The application process will now be easier and automatic
- By linking it with other government schemes, a holistic assistance will be provided
Who will get the benefit of WIS? (Eligibility Criteria)
- The individual must be a Singapore citizen
- Must be at least 30 years old (no age limit for persons with disabilities)
- Your monthly income must be between $500 and $3,000

WIS is paid in two parts:
- 10% cash – directly into your bank account via PayNow, or into a bank account if you don’t have a PayNow set up, or via GovCash if you don’t have a bank account.

The whole process is automated—no paperwork.
